Conducted under a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Special Airworthiness Certificate in the Experimental Category, the piloted flight departed from Heart’s flight-test base at Plattsburgh International Airport in Upstate New York.
Throughout the 27-minute sortie, the test pilot guided the X1 through taxi, takeoff, climb, basic maneuvers, and a smooth landing—validating the aircraft's aerodynamics, battery management, and megawatt-class electric powertrain.
Why the Heart X1 Matters
Aviation contributes roughly 2.5% of global carbon emissions, with regional hops producing high emissions per passenger-kilometer due to short takeoff cycles. The Heart X1 was engineered specifically to break this mold:
Radically lower operating costs: While jet fuel prices fluctuate significantly, the X1 demonstrator completed its test circuit using only about $5 worth of grid power. Heart projects that production aircraft could yield up to 40% lower operating costs than traditional regional turboprops.
Validating commercial scale: Most previous electric aviation records were held by ultralight or small utility planes. With a 106-foot wingspan and an 11-tonne airframe, the X1 mirrors the footprint of commercial turboprops like the Dash 8 and ATR 42.

The Road to the Commercial ES-30
The X1 demonstrator serves as the direct testbed for Heart Aerospace’s planned production aircraft, the ES-30:
Capacity: 30 passengers.
Propulsion Architecture: Hybrid-electric powertrain pairing battery packs with reserve turbogenerators.
Range: Approximately 200 km (125 miles) on pure battery power, extending up to 800 km (500 miles) in hybrid mode with full passenger loads.
Target Entry into Service: Expected around 2031.
The program has already attracted over $9.4 billion in customer interest, letters of intent, and orders from major carriers, including United Airlines, Air Canada, and JSX.
