The Clock is Ticking: The 2026 Musicbed Challenge Has Officially Begun!

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect sign to start your next film, this is it. The 2026 Musicbed Challenge is officially underway, and the 30-day countdown has begun. You have from now until August 14, 2026, to write, shoot, edit, and submit an original short film for a shot at over $65,000 in cash and prizes.

Whether you’re a seasoned director, a commercial creator, or an indie filmmaker, the ultimate creative gauntlet is live. Here is how to dive in before you lose another day.

The Countdown is On: August 14 Deadline

Because we are already in mid-July, the clock is actively running. There are under 30 days left to execute your vision from scratch.

  • The Deadline: August 14, 2026

  • The Immediate First Step: Stop overthinking and head to the Musicbed Challenge page to download the official Starter Kit. It has all the rules, guidelines, and assets you need to make your submission official.

3 Categories. Choose Your Angle.

You need to pick one track and run with it. Keep your concept focused so you can execute it fast:

1. Narrative (Under 10 minutes)

  • The Brief: Create a non-branded, scripted narrative film. Focus on character, conflict, and a core truth that connects with the audience.

2. Spec Ad (Under 90 seconds)

  • The Brief: Write and shoot a highly polished commercial for a fictional brand. Connect a product or service to a powerful emotion or story.

3. Documentary (Under 10 minutes)

  • The Brief: Capture a true story through your unique lens. Profile a person, a place, or a community, and show us why their story matters.

What’s on the Line?

Musicbed and sponsors like SmallHD are putting up a massive $65K+ prize pool consisting of cash, gear, and production tools.

Judges will select a Grand Prize Winner and two runners-up for each category, while the public will vote on the People’s Choice Winner. Plus, your work will be judged by creative heavyweights who have directed and produced for brands like Apple, Google, Nike, Netflix, and Disney.

Stop Planning, Start Shooting

The hardest part of a 30-day challenge is always day one. Don't wait for a bigger budget or the "perfect" script. Grab your camera, download the starter kit, and get to work.
