George Orwell 1984

Is it time to remake 1984?

Bill Milling here, AI video producer and long-time observer of how cinema reflects (and often predicts) the state of the world.

Given the current political climate, surveillance debates, truth distortion, AI misinformation, and global censorship, I’m wondering if now is the moment to reimagine Orwell’s 1984 for a new generation.

Not as a nostalgia play. Not as a dystopian thriller.

But it is a precise cinematic mirror of where we are and where we’re heading.

Imagine a version built with today’s tools:

  • Hyperreal AI-generated environments

  • Deepfake media as a literal plot device

  • Language itself is being weaponized through large language models

  • A Ministry of Truth operating via algorithmic content suppression

From a video production standpoint, this could be a benchmark project — visually rich, narratively urgent, and technologically meta.

So I’ll ask this to my fellow producers and creatives:

Is it time to re-shoot the world’s most prescient warning?

And if so… how would you do it?
