ChatGPT Work Has Arrived: Should Video Professionals Be Excited or Nervous?

Remember when AI could write a decent email and we all thought that was impressive?

Those were simpler times.

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Work, and it is a very different animal. This is not just another chatbot waiting for you to ask a question. It is designed to support complex projects for hours by gathering information, organizing workflows, creating presentations, building spreadsheets, drafting documents, and completing tasks that might otherwise consume an entire afternoon.

For those of us in video production, that should get our attention.

Imagine asking AI to create a production schedule, develop a shot list, organize equipment requirements, estimate crew costs, draft a client proposal, prepare a presentation, and turn everything into polished deliverables, all while you discuss creative concepts with your client.

That is no longer science fiction.

Before anyone starts putting “Wanted: Human Producer” signs on the studio door, relax.

ChatGPT Work is not replacing experienced producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, or production managers. It still cannot walk onto a set and solve the mystery of the missing power cable. It cannot convince a nervous talent to relax in front of the camera. It certainly cannot explain why everyone showed up except the client.

Some jobs remain wonderfully human.

What ChatGPT Work does exceptionally well is handle the mountain of administrative work surrounding every production.

Need a first draft of a proposal?

Done.

Need a production calendar?

Done.

Need a comparison of camera packages for three different budgets?

Done.
