OpenAI’s New Browser Could Change the Internet Forever
Just when we thought the browser wars were over, OpenAI showed up with a flamethrower.

According to Reuters, OpenAI is about to launch an AI-powered web browser that integrates ChatGPT directly into your browsing experience. No more clicking around. No more filling out forms. Just tell your AI what you need—reservations, research, registrations and it handles the rest.
This isn’t a new tab. It’s a whole new paradigm.
And yes, it’s a direct shot at Google.
Chrome, the heart of Google’s $300 billion ad empire, is suddenly vulnerable. With the DOJ declaring Chrome part of an illegal monopoly and antitrust winds blowing strong, OpenAI is seizing the moment. They’re building their browser on Google’s own Chromium engine but keeping everything inside a conversational interface.
In other words, Google sends you to the web. OpenAI keeps you inside the conversation.
If even a fraction of ChatGPT’s 400 million weekly users make the switch, Google’s data firehose could slow to a trickle. OpenAI has already poached two top Chrome VPs. In April, one of their executives even said they’d consider buying Chrome ID to be spun off.
Oh, and they’re not alone. Perplexity just launched its own browser for power users, and The Browser Company released Dia. The era of AI-native browsing is here.
But let’s be real: Chrome still dominates the market. Old habits are hard to break. Winning this war won’t just require a better browser; it’ll take a new way of thinking about how we interact with the web.
And that’s what excites me most.
As video producers, marketers, and content creators, we need to prepare for a world where AI is not just a tool, it’s the new gateway to the internet.
Search engines become agents. Browsers become co-pilots. And the entire model of content discovery gets rewritten.
