AMC joins the team for Resident Evil 5!
Science-fiction horror action comes home to AMC this holiday season with Resident Evil 5!!! I know, exciting right? I’m about as jaded as a production staff member comes these days and even MY eyes began to sparkle when Bill informed us about our involvement with the next edition of the Resident Evil film series. Filming for Resident Evil 5: Retribution began in Toronto,Ontario this October and is set to wrap just before Christmas this year.
Alright, I know what you’re thinking Blog Buddies, you’re thinking… Adrienne, if they’re filming in Ontario how did AMC get involved? That’s an excellent question for which I have an equally excellent answer. While many know AMC as green screen authorities here on the East Coast, what only a few industry insiders remember is that when Bill Milling started AMC “back in the day” our primary projects were acting as second units for shows like Heroes and How I Met Your Mother. Bill and the gang shot scenes and B reel for just about every show that was set in New York City but filmed in California or Canada. In addition Bill comes from a feature film background. He cut his teeth along side Sam Raimi on Sci-Fi films while still under the wing of the famous Simon Nuchtern.
But back to Resident Evil 5. If we are to believe everything we read on Twitter then you might be interested to know that lead actress Milla Jovovich reported that the parasite known in the fourth video game installment as “Las Plagas” will be a part if Resident Evil 5′s story line. The “Las Plagas” parasite allows the undead to “run around, ride motorbikes, and shoot machine guns”. Great…just great, as if they weren’t freaky enough before. I can also tell you (even though Bill might give me the fatty stink eye when he finds out I posted this insider info) that New York City’s Times Square can expect to feel a wave of Alice Action in the film.
But you know what won’t be? Jensen Ackles, sorry Supernatural fans… maybe next Resident Evil.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson has leaked that the film uses a recreated action set-piece from the 5th video game where Alice and her cohorts drive a Rolls Royce while being chased by zombies. Here’s what Milla had to say about it via Twitter:
“Hey every1! Wow, u can really tell that we’re on the last month of filming, cause now the crew is scrambling 2 get everything done, schedules have been changed, ppl r on edge bcause now we’ll b shooting Saturdays till the end of production (Xmas eve) to get it all done, while all of us who are doing stunts will b working on our 1 day off to rehearse 4 the nxt big fight sequences! MAN!
…Anyway, 2day we’re still in the middle of the rolls Royce chase sequence, so lots of explosions, glass shattering n running from zombies. It’s a pretty closed set, so I don’t know if I’ll b able 2 send any vids, but I’ll let u know when sumthing interesting happens!”
How great is it that despite her fame and beauty, Milla Jovovich both makes the time to reach out to fans of the Resident Evil series AND seems just as excited about making the film. I love supporting celebs and films like this – those that just love what they do and give a little fan service to all the viewers who keeps films the Resident Evil so popular.
