The American Movie Company welcomes Gerritt VanderMeer as the new head of the Executive Speech Coach team.
GERRITT VANDERMEER has been a professional speech coach since 1998. Mr. VanderMeer’s work as a mentor to professional speakers is informed by first-hand experience on-stage and on-camera as a spokesperson, emcee, film, television, commercial, voice-over and theater performer. He has appeared in person throughout the United States and abroad, and is a member of the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG), Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Actors (AFTRA.)
Mr. VanderMeer holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, where he was the teaching fellow for Voice and Speech. He holds multiple bachelor’s Degrees (including Theater, Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Purdue University, which recognized him with the Emerging Voices Award for distinguished alumni in 2010. He has been the Vocal Technique instructor at the Stanley Greene Media Center in Manhattan since 2006.
About his work as an Executive Speech Coach, Mr. VanderMeer says:
“Speech Coaching is never about changing who the speaker is or asking the client to pretend to be someone they’re not. We work to help our clients identify their unique strengths and capitalize on them, and to gain control of unconscious habits which could interfere with the ability to get the message across effectively. Really, we’re in the business of helping people become better at being themselves in front of an audience.”
I also use technology to ad in the process. The Presidential Prompter (aka Autocue) is used by public speaker everywhere. President Obama used his to great effect as do Fortune 50 Exec and diplomats and public speakers everywhere.
